The Tascosa Rebels are taking a road trip to take on the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Tascosa has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tascosa lost 15-8 to Amarillo on Tuesday. The Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Vanessa Langeland made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassidy Langeland, who fired off two home runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Lubbock-Cooper entered their tilt with Caprock on Wednesday with 13 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 14. They came out on top against the Longhorns by a score of 9-6.
Brooklyn Ray tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, McKanna Garcia was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Lydia Pesterfield, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.
Lubbock-Cooper was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 20-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lubbock-Cooper's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tascosa, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-20.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Tascosa hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lubbock-Cooper struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Tascosa might still be hurting after the 18-3 loss they got from Lubbock-Cooper in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
