The Mare Island Tech Academy Griffins had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They walked away with a 49-39 victory over John Henry. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mare Island Tech Academy also won the last time the pair played two weeks ago.
Mare Island Tech Academy found their leader in underclassman Osbourne Ferrer, who scored 20 points. Josh Puno was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Despite the loss, John Henry saw an underclassman step up: Cesar Melchor scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Magana, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Mare Island Tech Academy pushed their record up to 4-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for John Henry, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
Mare Island Tech Academy will head out on the road to take on Varsity Opponent at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for John Henry, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Griffin Academy at 6:00 p.m.
