Varina is 2-8 against Highland Springs since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Varina Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Highland Springs Springers at 1:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Varina comes in on six and Highland Springs on five.
Last Tuesday, Varina won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Hermitage 7-6. Given Varina's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Hermitage is ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Highland Springs stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 36-6 victory over Hermitage on the road. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Highland Springs just coasted through the last quarter.
Varina's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.5 points per game. As for Highland Springs, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
Varina was taken down by Highland Springs 29-0 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Varina avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
