The Bishop Verot Vikings's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Estero Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bishop Verot had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They blew past Mulberry 47-6 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 31-0.
Bishop Verot found their leader in underclassman Deshon Jenkins jr, who rushed for 257 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 14.3 yards per carry. Jenkins jr is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Carter Smith, who rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Estero made easy work of Hardee on Friday and carried off a 26-6 win. Estero pushed the score to 26-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Hardee cut but never quite recovered from.
Estero's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malik Allen, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Wilson, who threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Estero's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Hardee's QB won't forget Aaron Zapata anytime soon given Zapata sacked him twice.
Bishop Verot has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 10-1 record. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.09 points. As for Estero, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.
Everything came up roses for Bishop Verot against Estero in their previous matchup back in October as the squad secured a 52-0 victory. Will Bishop Verot repeat their success, or does Estero have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
