Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Skates Past Athens Christian Preparatory Academy with Ease

St. Mary posted their biggest win since February 13, 2024 on Tuesday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 55-27 victory over the Athens Christian Preparatory Academy Storm. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 48-33 back in November of 2024.

St. Mary's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Brogan, who posted eight points along with six boards and five assists. That's the most assists Brogan has posted since back in February of 2024. Blanton Mansfield was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds.

Brogan wasn't the only one working in the assists department: St. Mary's was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Athens Christian Preparatory Academy lost, don't look at Lance Compton. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Runte, who had four points and three steals.

St. Mary's has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. As for Athens Christian Preparatory Academy, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

St. Mary's will head out to face off against Trinity School of Texas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Athens Christian Preparatory Academy, they will welcome Tyler Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tyler Classical Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
