The Kearns Cougars lost against the Cyprus Pirates back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Kearns took a 51-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cyprus. Kearns has struggled against Cyprus recently, as their contest on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Kearns lost, one person who can't be blamed is Adhau Chol. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Chol is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted three or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Crystal Afemata - marasco, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Tamila Francis continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cyprus, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Francis has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Amelia Echternkamp, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Kearns' defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Cyprus, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-7.
Kearns will head out on the road to square off against West Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Jordan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Kearns likes a good challenge. As for Cyprus, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Taylorsville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cyprus is on a three-game streak of home wins, Taylorsville a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
