The Sharyland Rattlers will head out on the road to face off against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Sharyland and five for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest.
Last Friday, Sharyland was beaten by Pioneer 42-7. Sharyland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.
Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest fell victim to Roma's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Gladiators on the road and fell 62-0. While losing is never fun, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1084th, while Roma is ranked 474th).
Sharyland's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Roma and 9-0 Weslaco (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 91.7% over those games). As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Everything came up roses for Sharyland against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 53-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sharyland since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
