Warrensburg-Latham is 1-9 against Meridian since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Hawks at 4:30 p.m.
Warrensburg-Latham fell victim to Tuscola and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. Considering the last time the Cardinals couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Meanwhile, Meridian never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Clinton with a sharp 17-0 victory. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by eight runs or more this season.
Ashley Schelling made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Meridian let Katelyn Clapp and Julia Meisenhelter run wild. Clapp went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Meisenhelter went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Clapp has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Childers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meridian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meridian's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Warrensburg-Latham, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Warrensburg-Latham couldn't quite get it done against Meridian when the teams last played on April 10th as they fell 8-4. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
