Baseball Recap: Deltona Wins Going Away Against Mainland

Deltona was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Mainland on Monday. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Buccaneers. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Brayden Thorn was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Yandiel Torres and Kenny Dozier did most of the damage at the plate: Torres went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Dozier scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Dozier a new career-high. Eric Cunningham also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Deltona was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Deltona's record now sits at 7-11. As for Mainland, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

Coincidentally, Deltona and Mainland will both be playing Taylor the next time they take the field. The Wolves will host the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Buccaneers will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
