Basketball Recap: Petrolia Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

While Petrolia didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They strolled past the Alvord Bulldogs with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 44-30. The win was familiar territory for the Pirates, who have now won three games in a row.

Petrolia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Holland Horton led the charge by shooting 45% from the field to rack up 16 points. What's more, Horton also posted a 60% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January. Another player making a difference was Kelly Daniels, who posted nine points and five boards.

Petrolia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 7.6 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 13.

Alvord's loss came despite strong showings from Cambree Watts and Lillie Manning. Watts scored 13 points, while Manning put up ten points.

Petrolia's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Alvord, they are on a 33-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Petrolia has already played their next matchup, a 46-20 win against Winters on the 6th. Alvord has also already played their next game (against Archer City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
