The Middletown Islanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 17th straight defeat. They were the victim of a tough 45-20 loss at the hands of Lincoln School. Middletown was down 40-11 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Middletown saw an underclassman step up: Josselynn Padgett scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Middletown struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Lincoln School posted eight assists.
Lincoln School got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sarah Berube out in front who scored 18 points along with six steals and two blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which Berube has scored at least a third of Lincoln School's points. Reign Whiteing was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Middletown's defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-17. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.4 points per game. As for Lincoln School, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Middletown will head out on the road to take on Exeter-West Greenwich at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Exeter-West Greenwich focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Thursday. As for Lincoln School, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Burrillville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
