Georgetown dropped to 5-10 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Blythewood Bengals, falling 9-3. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Bengals when the teams met back in March of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Georgetown saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Hardee, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Jackson Lambert also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Blythewood, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games.
On Blythewood's side, Caleb Blackwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits. Blackwell has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Amare Counts and Navy Strickland did most of the damage at the plate: Counts got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Strickland went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Counts a new career-high. Chance Johnson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Georgetown will take on Bishop O'Connell in a tournament on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 13.2 runs per game this season. As for Blythewood, they will look to defend their home field on the 14th against Sumter at 6:30 p.m.
