Southside enjoyed a cozy 45-27 win over Etowah. Given Southside's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Etowah is ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mason Teague had a dynamite game for Southside, rushing for 241 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Teague was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 54 yards. Koal Garrett also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Southside's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Etowah, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Southside will be playing in front of their home fans against Boaz at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Boaz has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 160 points over their last four matchups. As for Etowah, they will head out on the road to face off against West Morgan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Morgan has nine straight wins, Etowah has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
