Julia Legere was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carys Gugliotta, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Arlington got the win against Watertown on Thursday by a conclusive 19-1. The result was nothing new for the Spy Ponders, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Soline Fisher made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Fisher was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs.
In other batting news, Arlington let Keira Condon and Hanna Whiting run wild. Condon went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Whiting went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two runs gave Condon a new career-high. Mackenzie Dobbyn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Arlington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Winchester's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Arlington, their record is now 5-6.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Winchester hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Arlington struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Winchester might still be hurting after the 19-5 loss they got from Arlington when the teams last played back in April. Can the Red & Black avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
