Four must be Columbia's lucky number: they beat Independence with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Raiders beat the Blue Devils by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Raiders sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Sadie Schulke was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season.
Schulke wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jessica Jacobs, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Columbia pushed their record up to 18-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Independence, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-6 record this season.
As of now, neither Columbia nor Independence have any future games scheduled.
