Softball Recap: Horton Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Horton hadn't done well against Troy recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Chargers blew past the Trojans 16-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Chargers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Bobbi Becker and Maria Mendez did most of the damage at the plate: Becker went 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Mendez went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Becker a new career-high. Jojo Switch was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Horton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They are 4-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Horton's victory bumped their record up to 4-11. As for Troy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Horton will venture away from home to challenge Jefferson County North at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Troy, they will host Jackson Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cobras have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
