Kellogg is 1-7 against Sandpoint since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Kellogg Wildcats are on the road again and play against the Sandpoint Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully Kellogg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Kellogg might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Moscow an easy 55-32 victory. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Kellogg has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Emily Coe, who scored 11 points. The matchup was her third in a row with at least ten points. Macy Jerome was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, the stars were shining brightly for Sandpoint in a 58-42 win over Lewiston on Saturday. Given Sandpoint's advantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Lewiston is ranked 78th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sandpoint got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordyn Tomco out in front who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliya Strock, who scored 20 points.
Kellogg's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Sandpoint, their victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Kellogg have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 34.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Sandpoint struggles in that department as they've nailed 43.3% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Kellogg took a serious blow against Sandpoint when the teams last played back in February, falling 64-30. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Kellogg was down 36-13.
