The West Field Longhorns will face off against the Springville Red Devils at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. West Field is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
West Field heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Tuesday. They came up short against Salem Hills, falling 13-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Longhorns couldn't push the score so high this time.
West Field saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brinklee Hadley, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Quinn Garrett also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Springville faced Clearfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Red Devils had just enough and edged out the Falcons 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Devils have posted since March 20th.
Allyx Haveron was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mary Finlayson, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
Springville has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for West Field, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 21-7 record.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Field hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .411. However, it's not like Springville struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
