Jesse Zelonka and Tre Tipton provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Monessen. The connection went for 80 yards, the longest such play in WPIAL A Eastern this season.
North Catholic moved up to 170 from 277 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Trojans climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Canevin Catholic 21-0.
Apollo Ridge's dynamic duo of Zelonka and Tipton proved tough for the Greyhounds to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Zelonka threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns and Tipton had 154 yards receiving. Alex Smith helped Apollo Ridge's passing attack out by catching two balls for 41 yards.
Andrew Wingard was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 148 yards as West Shamokin lost to Monessen. Teammate Zac Horner added to the ground attack by rushing for 131 yards.
Apollo Ridge's Zelonka and Tipton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading WPIAL A Eastern in both passing and receiving yards. Zelonka has thrown for 1457 yards this season, while Tipton, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 39 catches for 786 yards. Horner from the Wolves leads the league in rushing with 785 yards.
