Shelbyville Central got a massive performance out of Stephen Bobo, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Shelbyville Central is undefeated when Bobo posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was William Bobo, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Stephen wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Shelbyville Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Coffee County Central). They put the hurt on Bloomington Central Catholic with a sharp 16-3 win on Friday. With that victory, the Red Raiders brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Davis McKenzie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Landan Abellana was a standout: he scored two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Blake Hillis was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Coffee County Central has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. Shelbyville Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Shelbyville Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coffee County Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
