The Piedmont Panthers came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Parkwood by a score of 66-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Piedmont to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emily Polk, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. Polk is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 14 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ada Allen, who scored 11 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Parkwood's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peyton Collins, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Collins has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayl Starnes, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Piedmont's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.4 points per game. As for Parkwood, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Piedmont will take on West Stanly at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Stanly has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Parkwood, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Central Academy at 6:00 p.m. Central Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
