Santa Teresa has gone 8-2 against Deming recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Desert Warriors will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Santa Teresa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Santa Teresa is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Chaparral just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost 13-7 to the Lobos. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Desert Warriors have suffered since March 8, 2024.
Jose Romo was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
Romo wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Deming came tearing into Friday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 22-3 margin over the Fighting Colts. Considering the Wildcats have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Santa Teresa, Deming also got a great game from a two-way player: Royce Sutton. He pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Sutton was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Deming got a massive performance out of Fabian Ortega, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Ortega a new career-high. Estevan Mariscal was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Deming kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 12 consecutive games.
Deming's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Teresa, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-6.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Santa Teresa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .491. However, it's not like Deming struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Santa Teresa took their win against Deming in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Desert Warriors repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
