Basketball Recap: Grace Gallagher Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Kearns

There's no place like home for Hunter, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They secured a 48-44 W over the Kearns Cougars on Tuesday. For the Wolverines, this counts as revenge for the 64-57 win the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Hunter's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Gallagher, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Gallagher's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Skye Davidson, who went 5 for 9 en route to 17 points and six boards.

Hunter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearns only pulled down six offensive boards.

Despite the loss, Kearns still got an impressive performance from Ava Tupou, who shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Tupou is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lia Benson, who posted eight points.

Hunter's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-11. As for Kearns, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hunter will venture away from home to face off against Taylorsville at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Taylorsville will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Hunter surely won't give up without a fight. As for Kearns, they will head out to take on Granger at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kearns is facing Granger at the right time seeing as Granger is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
