The Independence Eagles and the Smyrna Bulldogs squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Independence Eagles had to settle for second. Independence fell 26-14 to Smyrna. Independence was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Smyrna apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2019.
Despite the loss, Independence still got an impressive performance from Luke Mcneilly, who rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 152 yards and a touchdown.
The critical scores for Smyrna came from Austin Morris, Tyreque Mccarver, and Michael Robinson.
Independence's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 11-0 Brentwood (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.7% over those games). As for Smyrna, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.
Independence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Smyrna will be playing in front of their home fans against Ravenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
