The Northwood Chargers will be playing in front of their home fans against the North Moore Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Northwood has three straight victories, North Moore has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Northwood stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They really took it to Chatham Central for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-20 win on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-11.
Northwood found their leader in underclassman Mikaylah Glover, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Glover scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Neah Henry, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
North Moore suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Chatham Central, falling 77-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss North Moore has suffered against Chatham Central since February 17, 2021.
The losing side was boosted by Calissa Clendenin, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Zeikierra Young was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Northwood pushed their record up to 12-2 with that win, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points per game. As for North Moore, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Northwood have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.9 threes per game. It's a different story for North Moore, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 threes per game. Given Northwood's sizeable advantage in that area, North Moore will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Northwood against North Moore in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 58-20 victory. Will Northwood repeat their success, or does North Moore have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
