Northwestern has gone a perfect 4-0 against Maconaquah recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Tigers will square off against the Braves at 5:30 p.m. Northwestern's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Monday. Northwestern had just enough and edged out Peru 1-0. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Northwestern as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
The result came thanks to Stevie-Rae Hedges's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks.
Meanwhile, Maconaquah played in-conference for the first time on Monday and got just the result they were looking for. They walked away with a 10-7 win over Northfield. The Braves haven't had any issues with the Norsemen recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Blayklee Buman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Buman was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Maconaquah got a massive performance out of Ireland Kile, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two runs gave Kile a new career-high. Shaela Brazzel was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Maconaquah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.
Northwestern's record is now 8-14. As for Maconaquah, their record now sits at 5-13.
Northwestern came out on top in a nail-biter against Maconaquah when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
