Guilderland and Shaker are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Flying Dutchmen will take on the Bison at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
Friday just wasn't the day for Guilderland's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Albany on Friday.
Guilderland got a good showing from Jayden Henderson, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
At the plate, Guilderland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Balleau, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Shaker won against Shenendehowa on Wednesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Everything went the Bison's way against Averill Park as they made off with an 8-0 victory. The Bison's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Tom Case made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Case was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Joey Gecewicz looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jason Bailey, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Guilderland dropped their record down to 1-3 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Shaker, their record now sits at 3-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Guilderland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Shaker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 14.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Guilderland couldn't quite get it done against Shaker when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Flying Dutchmen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
