The Hilton Head Prep Dolphins were the 55-30 winner over the Savannah Country Day Hornets when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Hilton Head Prep fell to Savannah Country Day 54-49. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Hilton Head Prep came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 79th in South Carolina, while Savannah Country Day is ranked 317th in Georgia).
Loss or not, Hilton Head Prep got some senior leadership from Ben Frey who scored 15 points along with six assists and six rebounds and Jason Britschge who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for him. Billy Barron was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Leading Savannah Country Day to victory were Rudy Anderson and Robert Spaulding iv. Anderson scored 17 points along with seven rebounds, while Spaulding iv scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The match was Spaulding iv's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stone Wells, who scored seven points.
Hilton Head Prep bumped their record down to 9-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Savannah Country Day, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hilton Head Prep will take on Beaufort Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Savannah Country Day won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Frederica Academy at 4:30 p.m. on January 6th. Frederica Academy will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
