Thomas County Central and Cairo are an even 5-5 against one another  since December of 2016, but  not for long. Both teams will face off  at 6:00  p.m.  on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
 Thomas County Central pushed their score all the way to 57 last Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Tift County at home  by a decisive  71-57 margin. It was the first time  this season that Thomas County Central let down their fans at home.
 Thomas County Central's  loss came about despite a quality game from  Travesha Giddens, who  dropped  a double-double on 22 points and 16  rebounds. Giddens is absolutely dominating the  rebound category: she's  posted at least eight every time she's  taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of  Kirsten Guyton, who  scored ten points.
 Even though they lost, Thomas County Central  were working as a unit and  finished the game with 14  assists. That's the most  assists they've managed all season.
 Meanwhile, Cairo's recent rough patch got a bit rougher  on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Shaw 53-25. While losing is never fun, Cairo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings  (they are ranked 423rd, while Shaw is ranked 209th).
 Thomas County Central's defeat  ended  a  six-game streak of wins at home  dating back to last season and  dropped them to 12-2. As for Cairo, their loss was  their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which  bumped their record down to 1-14.
 Everything came up roses for Thomas County Central against Cairo in their previous matchup  back in December of 2023 as the  team secured a  65-32 victory. With Thomas County Central ahead  41-19 at the half, the  match was all but over already.
