Ramona and Westview are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Westview took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Ramona, who comes in off a win.
On Wednesday, Ramona sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over Fallbrook. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Taeya Kitchen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evie Brown, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Kayla Gibson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Meanwhile, Westview didn't have quite enough to beat Mt. Carmel on Wednesday and fell 2-1. The Wolverines haven't had much luck with the Sundevils recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Westview also got a good showing from Kaya Rodriguez, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.
At the plate, Kamryn Gonzalez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Westview's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 12-8-1. As for Ramona, their record now sits at 9-12-1.
Ramona suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Westview when the teams last played back in April. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
