The Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy Swamp Owls are taking a road trip to challenge the Pope John Paul II Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18, 2024. They put the hurt on Hammond with a sharp 14-1 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Swamp Owls' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Blake Schexnider was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Brayden Netterville was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Madden Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Pope John Paul II never let their opponents score last Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Northlake Christian. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
The team relied heavily on Blaze Rodriguez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Trey Dieudonne was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Pope John Paul II is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy, their record is now 13-11.
