Lincoln is 7-1 against Del Mar since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Dons at 4:00 p.m. Lincoln is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Lincoln fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Live Oak on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Acorns by a score of 8-6. The Lions have struggled against the Acorns recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Lincoln saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Diaz, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Keona Perez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Del Mar was able to grind out a solid victory over Silver Creek last Friday, taking the game 15-11. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dons.
Natalie Dixon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up ten earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Niarah Aimonetti was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Julienn (Jess) Ruiz-Correa was another key player, going 2-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Del Mar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-9. As for Lincoln, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
Del Mar's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .392. It's a different story for Del Mar, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Lincoln's hitters?
Lincoln was able to grind out a solid victory over Del Mar when the teams last played back in March, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
