The Goldsboro Cougars put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Wayne Country Day 49-46. For Goldsboro, this counts as revenge for the 65-24 loss Wayne Country Day walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2021.
Goldsboro got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Des'Myah Croom out in front who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The game was Croom's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nashiyah Williams, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Goldsboro pushed their record up to 11-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Wayne Country Day, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Goldsboro and Wallace-Rose Hill will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wallace-Rose Hill has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Wayne Country Day, they will be playing at home against Coastal Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Coastal Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 412th, while Wayne Country Day is ranked 163rd).
