The Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojans will head out to take on the Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Wesleyan Christian Academy will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Wesleyan Christian Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Calvary Day School with a sharp 13-6 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Cole Bowman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Brandon Loehr also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Wesleyan Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Legion Collegiate Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Carmel Christian on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 11-10.
Legion Collegiate Academy also got a good showing from Ben Lee, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lee has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Andres Lopez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Justin Iannetto, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
The victory got Wesleyan Christian Academy back to even at 6-6. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Wesleyan Christian Academy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Legion Collegiate Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wesleyan Christian Academy couldn't quite finish off Legion Collegiate Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 and fell 6-4. Can Wesleyan Christian Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
