Washington County is 9-1 against Fruitdale since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Washington County Bulldogs will be taking part in a tournament against the Fruitdale Pirates at 11:00 a.m. Washington County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Fruitdale is facing Washington County at the wrong time: Washington County suffered their first home loss of the season on Tuesday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3.
Allie Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits.
On the hitting side, Washington County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Turner, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Turner is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stole at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Sadie Thornton also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fruitdale). Everything went their way against Clarke County on Monday as Fruitdale made off with a 19-3 win. The Pirates have beaten the Bulldogs the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Emma Box looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Skylar Loper, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinley Turner, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Fruitdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Washington County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Fruitdale, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Washington County took their win against Fruitdale when the teams last played on Saturday by a conclusive 13-3. Does Washington County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Fruitdale turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
