Poca extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 6-4. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Clay County Panthers. If the Dots were looking for revenge after losing 21-1 to the Panthers when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Nate Christian was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Jackson McClanahan was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.
As for Clay County, their record now sits at 2-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Poca, Clay County also got a great game from a two-way player: Pierce Adkins. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over 5.1 innings pitched. Adkins was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lathan Brown, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Poca will head out to take on Hannan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Clay County, they will venture away from home to challenge Braxton County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
