The Moapa Valley Pirates gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against Enterprise by a score of 42-34. Given Moapa Valley's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 13th in Nevada, while Enterprise is ranked 73rd in Utah), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Moapa Valley to victory were Claire Cox and Savanna Burt. Cox scored 10 points along with 8 steals and 7 rebounds, while Burt scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals. Haylie Western was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 7 rebounds.
Enterprise's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bentlee Rogers, who scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds. Rogers scored a full 32.4% of Enterprise's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kylah Humphries, who scored 3 points along with 3 steals.
Moapa Valley's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Enterprise, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Moapa Valley will be playing at home against The Meadows School at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Enterprise, they will head out on the road to face off against Virgin Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
