The Valley Central Vikings will take on the Warwick Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, Valley Central beat Newburgh Free Academy 10-6. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Goldbacks: they've now won five in a row.
Emily Sharpe was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Sharpe was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrianna Ferraro, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. Emily Smit was another key player, going 2-for-4 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Meanwhile, Warwick never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against Monticello as they made off with a 12-0 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Lorenza Brennie was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gianna Ricco, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Warwick was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Warwick now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Valley Central, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3.
Valley Central's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Vikings have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Warwick, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Valley Central continue to outrun the ball?
Valley Central skirted past Warwick 2-1 in their previous matchup back in April. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
