Coalinga and Dos Palos are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Horned Toads will head out to challenge the Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Dos Palos will be up against a hot Coalinga squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Horned Toads were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Mendota on Tuesday.
Brooklyn Davis made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Coalinga got a massive performance out of Sophie Walker, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Walker has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Minayah Singleton, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Coalinga hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while Dos Palos put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Tranquillity. The Broncos blew past the Tigers 13-0. The victory was nothing new for the Broncos as they're now sitting on three straight.
Like Coalinga, Dos Palos also got a great game from a two-way player: Carly Brinkley. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Brinkley was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Liliana DelaRosa was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Samantha VonAllman was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coalinga pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Dos Palos, their record is now 14-8-1.
Both Coalinga and Dos Palos just can't seem to miss. The Horned Toads have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Dos Palos struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coalinga skirted past Dos Palos 2-1 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Horned Toads since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
