Paul VI and St. John are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Panthers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Cadets at 7:00 p.m. Paul VI is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Paul VI had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but St. Mary's Ryken put an end to it on Tuesday. The Panthers fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-2. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Natalie Monroe made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. John's). They blew past The Academy of the Holy Cross 26-6 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Chloe Armiger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, St. John's got a massive performance out of Cameran Corbett, who scored five runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-4. With that strong performance, Corbett is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Yasmin Burrell was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4.
St. John's kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
St. John's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Paul VI, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 7-7 record.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Paul VI hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like St. John's struggles in that department as they've averaged .384. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
