The Longmeadow Lancers will take on the Pittsfield Generals at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Longmeadow has three straight wins, Pittsfield has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Longmeadow beats Pittsfield with 14 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Lancers blew past Holyoke 14-2 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won three games by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Livia Kelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Longmeadow got a massive performance out of Sophia Winstel, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Blue, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Longmeadow was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Pittsfield came up short against Lenox Memorial on Monday and fell 5-1.
Pittsfield also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Mia Dejesus gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Pittsfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paxton Ebling, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Ava McMahon also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Longmeadow's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Pittsfield, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Pittsfield's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Longmeadow hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. It's a different story for Pittsfield, though, as they've only averaged .231. Will they be able to contain Longmeadow's hitters?
