They put the hurt on MAST Academy with a sharp 63-38 victory on Wednesday. Given Somerset Academy South Homestead's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while MAST Academy is ranked 642nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Somerset Academy South Homestead had a senior duo take command as Kas Williams dropped a double-double on 18 points and 24 rebounds and Aaron Rowe scored 20 points along with six steals. Rowe is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Gonzalez, who scored six points along with three steals.
Somerset Academy South Homestead's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for MAST Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somerset Academy South Homestead will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Coconut Creek at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. MAST Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mater Brickell Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024.
