The Haslett Vikings's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Portland Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Haslett posted their biggest win yet this season on Thursday. They blew past Eastern, posting a 78-22 win on the road. Given Haslett's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Eastern is ranked 610th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Haslett's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jadelyn Trotter, who scored 18 points along with six steals. Trotter hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Johnson, who scored 13 points along with seven steals and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Portland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past Charlotte 72-26 at home. Portland's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Haslett's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for Portland, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Everything went Haslett's way against Portland in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as Haslett made off with a 61-39 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Haslett since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
