Poway hasn't had much luck against El Camino recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Titans are taking a road trip to square off against the Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. Poway is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 34.2 points per game this season.
Poway blew Mount Miguel out of the water the last time the pair played, but last Friday Mount Miguel got their revenge. The Titans fell just short of the Matadors by a score of 35-32. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Titans have suffered since August 23, 2024.
Despite the defeat, Poway got top-tier performance from Luke Jorgensen, who rushed for 263 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.8 yards per carry. Jorgensen was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards. Poway also got a significant boost from Eli Alsop, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 94 yards.
Meanwhile, El Camino managed to keep up with Vista Murrieta until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Wildcats came up short against the Broncos, falling 38-12. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Broncos are ranked 20th).
Poway will have to contain Gavin Wasserman as he made an impact in El Camino's last game. He threw for 128 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 33 yards.
Poway now has a losing record of 2-3. As for El Camino, they now also have a losing record of 2-3.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Poway has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 278.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for El Camino, though, as they've been averaging only 90.2 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Poway ended up a good deal behind El Camino in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, losing 26-7. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
