Church Point is 9-1 against Northwest since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Church Point will look to defend their home field against Northwest at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.
Church Point's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Northside Christian as Church Point made off with an 11-0 win. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by seven runs or more this season.
Caiden B made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. B was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ethan Little was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Waylon Castille was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Northwest made easy work of Ville Platte on Thursday and carried off a 20-2 victory. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Raiders this season.
Like Church Point, Northwest also got a great game from a two-way player: Ethan Jenkins. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Jenkins has allowed since back in February. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing four bases. He has become a key player for Northwest: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-15 otherwise.
In other batting news, Northwest got a massive performance out of Ty Savoy, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aden Wheeler, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-2.
Northwest hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ville Platte struck out seven times.
Church Point's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Northwest, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-16.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Church Point has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Northwest struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Church Point came up short against Northwest in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 9-6. Can Church Point avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
