After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Christian Academy, the Williamsburg Academy Stallions were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Oakbrook Prep 70-68. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Williamsburg Academy has posted yet this season.
Wes Smith was his usual excellent self, scoring 18 points. Teague Ward was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Oakbrook Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brad Caldwell, who almost dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists. That's the first time this season that Caldwell posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Zenai Davis, who scored 22 points along with three steals.
Williamsburg Academy's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Oakbrook Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7.
Williamsburg Academy will head out on the road to square off against Florence Christian at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Florence Christian is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Oakbrook Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Spartanburg Day at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Spartanburg Day is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
