Air Academy dropped down to 14-4-1 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 17-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (ten), the Kadets still had to take the loss.
Maeleigh Hunt was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Hunt was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Hunt wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Williams, who fired off three home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-5. Williams has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. Alex Finkle was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
As for Cheyenne Mountain, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.
On Cheyenne Mountain's side, Corrine Harlow was a standout: she fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Harlow a new career-high.
