The DeRidder Dragons will head out on the road to square off against the Iota Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. DeRidder is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
DeRidder took a 15-run defeat the last time they faced off against DeQuincy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. DeRidder had just enough and edged out DeQuincy 6-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Dragons, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Laila Roberson made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. That earned run marked the first that she tossed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Haleigh Cooley was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024. Alyssa Hall also deserves some recognition as she stole her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Iota ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Iowa 9-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Iota let Chloe Bordelon and Chloe Darbonne run wild. Bordelon went 3-for-6 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Darbonne went 3-for-6 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Abigail LeJeune, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.
Iota hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Iowa struck out 14 times.
Iota's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for DeRidder, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. DeRidder has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Iota struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
