West Branch is a perfect 8-0 against Curwensville since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. West Branch will head out on the road to take on Curwensville at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
West Branch's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Cambria Heights 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won three matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Makena Moore made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Mactavish, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
West Branch hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Curwensville's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Monday. They put the hurt on Redbank Valley with a sharp 8-0 win. The Golden Tide might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by eight runs or more this season.
Addison Siple made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Siple was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Natalie Wischuck was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Briah Peoples was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
West Branch pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Curwensville, their record now sits at 5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. West Branch hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Curwensville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
West Branch took their victory against Curwensville when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Branch since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
