The Boise Brave will venture away from home to face off against the Kuna Kavemen at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Boise is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Boise is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Mountain View, who was ranked seventh at the time (Boise was ranked 19th). The Brave fell 10-5 to the Mavericks on Thursday. The Brave's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Boise saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Binford, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Binford has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Meanwhile, Kuna had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Warhawks 9-1. The Kavemen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.
Rylee Mangum was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Mangum was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Remington Quick and Jodi Zieglmeier did most of the damage at the plate: Quick went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Zieglmeier went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Zieglmeier has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Amber Harwood, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Kuna was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive games.
Boise's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Kuna, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Boise hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Kuna struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Boise might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Kuna in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Brave avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
